Brickyard Brewery

Since the original planning stages of The Brickyard Brewery nearly 9 years ago, time and life in general have changed the direction of where I am headed with this project. I am now just brewing for fun and to have some good beer tastings.  As of April 2012 I am working as assistant brewer at the Brew Kettle Production Works in Strongsville, OH.  What a job!!  20 barrel brewing system and adding 3 new 40 barrel fermenters, one now and the other 2 by early June.  At home I have a semi-automated 1 barrel brew system, built by Psycho Brew of Benton Michigan.  This new system is now making the wonderful Brickyard brews we all have known for years. And check back regularly for information on the calendar page for beer tasting and other activities.    For now we will get back to having fun and brewing some beer.  We are currently located next to the former boarding house of the long retired Brick Plant, approximately 2 miles south west of Strasburg, Ohio. The brickyard dates back to the late 1800's.  The boarding house for transient workers is now a residence on the property. We would ask that if anybody has pictures of the brickyard in its' early days, please let us know. We have some old wooden brick molds with the zinc Dover stamp. The wooden molds would have been hand packed, air dried for several days or even weeks and then the bricks would have been kiln dried. In these early days the quality of the bricks would vary greatly due to the hand packing, air drying and then the uneven heat in the kilns.
